Instagram Mania

I've been cheating on foursquare lately because I'm obsessed with Instagram. Instagram is a free iPhone app that's capitalized on the vintage, filtered hipstamatic photo trend. What Instagram has done which has made it so popular is embrace the Facebook "like," implement twitter's follow and hashtag systems, and integrate it's photo sharing with facebook, twitter, tumblr, flickr, and foursquare. 

In the social media world, photo sharing is huge. As the Social Media Dream Queen, I've got to stay on top of all the social networks. When a social media platform gets as popular as instagram, brands jump on board. Urban Outfitters, Red Bull, Billboard, Converse, Nylon, and The Standard Hotels are all sharing photos on instagram. Instagram has already exploded in popularity, and it's only going to get bigger. There's even been a ton of API's that have been popping up as alternatives to viewing photo sets outside of the instagram app.

Logistics aside, instagram is cool because of the endless amount of creative photography. Sure pet photos and pretty thinspirtation girls dominate the popular photo section, but there are some damn cool photos being posted every second.

Some of the best photography has outside help from apps like Diptic, PhotoStudio, Pixlromatic, and PicFrame. A guilty pleasure of mine is the catpaint app. I've had a lot of fun and awesome feedback from pictures of Louie and my Koala Movement photos.

Best T-Shirt Ever.

Happy FIRST Birthday La Belle Nuage!

Yesterday, I celebrated the one year anniversary of La Belle Nuage. On August 9th 2010, I sat down and wrote La Belle Nuage's first post, and so began my adventures as a self proclaimed quirky vegan filmmaker with a shopping problem. My initial goal was to give a face to the "chic vegan," but La Belle Nuage eventually expanded into all things Amy: relationship advice, The Koala Movement, packing advice, film reviews, geeky obsessions, anti-fur activism, and much much more. La Belle Nuage has been an absolute joy to write. I couldn't have done it without all of my friendly readers support, so I thank you all so very much! In honor of this occasion, I felt there was no better way to celebrate than to jump out of a giant cake. Don't ask me how I managed to find one, but I did... and it was awesome.

Kudos Planet Blue

Of all the girls to walk into one of Planet Blue's stores, I'm probably the least welcome. Last November / December my Fur Free Los Angeles team and I caused such a commotion, that Planet Blue removed all fur from their shelves. Whoever said one person cannot make a difference, doesn't have a blog and a big mouth. Planet Blue was my all time favorite boutique. That's partly the reason I went after them. I couldn't condone shopping at a store that sold fur. Not only that, Planet Blue is a favorite of many celebrities. Making this victory not only one for the animals, but also having an influence on high profile trend setters.

This morning, I went for my Sunday morning pedal and I found myself passing Planet Blue's Venice location. As I cycled passed their shop, I saw a fur vest in the window and nearly fell off my bike. So I decided to go in try on a few items and inspect the fur vest.

I'm very pleased to announce that it was faux fur and not real fur. Good job Planet Blue! I give you major kudos for cooperating and most importantly making a difference for the fur bearing little creatures out there. I'm still going to keep my eyes open, but I give my blessing to all you shopaholics out there to shop at Planet Blue once again.
